Five Tips To Protect Your LCD TV from Burglary

For those of us who have lived in good neighborhoods all our lives, burglary around the home is not a major issue.
In many cases, it's just these types of neighborhoods that are more likely to have LCD TVs in them.
But being in a good neighborhood isn't enough to protect you - in fact, it may attract the wrong kind of criminal.
Protecting your LCD TV is more about locking the house - it's about promoting an overall awareness of the security in your own home. This is especially important if you've got a family to take care of, at which point the LCD TV drops down your list of valuables. Even so, it helps to know what burglars might be looking for when they see something ripe for the picking - don't let your home be one of "those" homes. Here are five tips for protecting your LCD TV.
1. Lock your doors and windows.
Burglars are more likely to waltz right in if you don't so much as keep yours and windows locked, and it's not exactly hard to find out when you're not home, walk in your house, and walk out of it carrying with an LCD TV. As TodaysTHV.com notes, many police recommend keeping your doors and windows locked.
Naturally, you can't keep your house protected at all times, so work hard on making door/window locking part of your habit. If you have just one door - your apartment - then you may not have a lot of trouble remembering to lock up when you're not there. But if you own a house with several doors and windows, you'll want to work to keep them all locked and try to remember to lock the doors and windows you use once you're finished with them.
2. Form a neighborhood watch group.
You don't have to create the most formal group of neighborhood watchmen in order to succeed, but try going around to several of your neighbors and ask them if they'd be willing to watch over your home while you're gone in exchange for you watching over theirs. Be sure to alert your neighbors as to when you're going on vacation and when you're expecting visitors (such as someone installing a satellite dish) while you're away.
Neighbors are some of the greatest proximity alert sirens there are, and many are simply kind people that are looking to help out a fellow neighbor. If your neighbor is a problem on his own, that's another set of tips for another day.
3. Purchase an alarm system.
One of the fastest ways to scare off a burglar is having an alarm system in place that triggers once a house is broken in to. Home security services like ADT can help you set up a security system that doesn't only play an alarm, but alerts a network to a break-in. Some criminals are undeterred by alarms, knowing that they're just preventative measures that are supposed to scare them away. Make sure that your alarm has meaning.
4. Keep your TV somewhere private if possible.
Some people simply want to enjoy their TV in an open area - easily seen from the outside - like the living room, but if it's an option, it wouldn't hurt to keep your LCD TV somewhere else, such as in the basement along with a lot of your other entertainment. If a burglar is unable to explore your house with the limited time they have (because you have an alarm, right?) then they may be less likely to see the really valuable TV and may go for another one.
5. Don't assume that being home is enough.
Being home and having the lights on has a tendency to scare away burglars, but you'll always want to be prepared in case truly bad guys want in.
